Denzil Fredericks is the Managing Director of Shem Consulting and Training since its inception in 2008 and has been in the sphere of occupational health and safety in extent of 25 years. He has developed the business into a well renowned occupational health and safety consulting and training company both, in the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Botswana, where the company has achieved Accreditation from the Southern African Auditor Training and Certification Authority (SAATCA) including the Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) for the training of ISO and OHSAS Standards auditors i.e. ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OH&SMS), ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems (QMS), ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and ISO 22000:2018 Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS). The aforementioned includes the implementation and auditing of such Standards. Denzil has forged an international business relationship with the Michel Institut Gmbh (Bamberg, Germany) in the interest of sharing information, writing training materials and assisting one another within the project management and auditing disciplines.
Denzil is a former Scheme Chairperson for ISO 45001:2018, Board Director and latter Chairperson of SAATCA, Board Member of Agrément South Africa, Department of Labour committee member for the Asbestos Regulations of 2002 and is a SABS TC 283 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems) Committee Member. He is a Lead Auditor for ISO 45001:2018, accredited Trainer/ Assessor with the BQA and an Assessor/ Moderator with AgriSeta.
He has over the years and is still part of various professional teams that has employed him as an occupational health and safety consultant for the refurbishment, maintenance and or construction of new facilities & roads infrastructure (Permanent Structures/ Facilities). In addition to this, he has been employed by various clients for the overall occupational health and safety management prior to and during the assembly and dismantling of major temporary structures (TDS) such as structures used during the Presidential Inauguration, the State Funeral of our late President, The Honorable Nelson Mandela (Union Buildings & FNB Stadium) and subsequent State reburials of both, Mr. Moses Kotane (Pella) and Mr. J.B. Marks (Ventersdorp) including the latter funeral of Dr. Ruth Mompathi (Vryburg). He also advises facility management companies in respect of all occupational health and safety compliance requirements. The aforementioned includes continual involvement in hazard identification and risk assessments (HIRA), asbestos surveys/ assessments that include sampling and the formulation of asbestos registers, building/ facility assessments including compliance audits, writing of project specific OH&S specifications, approval of project specific occupational health and safety and fall protection plans, ensuring contractor (all disciplines) occupational health and safety compliance to the Occupational Health and Safety Act. 85 of 1993, applicable regulations, By-Laws and National Standards with pertinent reference to SANS 10400 (All parts).
Denzil has successfully managed and completed large occupational health and safety including environmental projects under the auspices of Shem Consulting and Training (PTY) Ltd. and has accumulated an excellent track record for himself over the past 25 years.
